Rotary Club of Balclutha organises a public forum to meet the candidates standing in the Clutha-Southland electorate for the 2017 New Zealand General Election. Each candidate introduces themselves and their party policies, then answers pre-prepared questions followed by any additional questions asked by the public.
MC Ken Blair began the public forum with praise for Rotary before introducing some new faces on the Clutha-Southland electorate political scene:

     Cherie Chapman Labour

     Rachael Goldsmith Green

     Mark Patterson NZ First

     Hamish Walker National

Ken set some rules to allow each candidate to introduce themselves for 5 minutes then answer three preset questions and any questions asked by the public for 2 minutes each.
Topics included:
  • Solutions offered to the high cost of electricity and people living in inadequate conditions in New Zealand.
  • Immigrant families and their valued labour and encouraging them to stay in New Zealand.
  • Bringing more government support to our region, including government jobs, and how our voices are heard in Wellington.
