PROJECTS
Book Sale
The book sale is a big fundraiser for Rotary so the club needs all hands on deck. A roster for helping on the days of the book sale started circulating at the meeting.
Susan, Nicki & Lynda have been very busy sorting books, usually on Monday evenings. Please help to distribute ads for the sale and please bring to the next meetings grocery items to make a hamper as a raffle prize at the book sale. The club needs ideas on what to donate proceeds from the sale this year.

SPEAKER OF THE EVENING

Eion Mills is Amenities Project Manager for Clutha District Council and is also Project Manager for Clutha Gold Trail extension from Lawrence to Waihola, so Eion shared with us the progress on the trail and his ideas on Balclutha projects.

Eion has surveyed the entire trail for the Clutha Gold extension so shared some photos and maps of the huge amount of work involved in the project. The trail follows parts of the old rail alignment, including Round Hill Tunnel, as well as some challenging landscape including farmland, country roads, native bush, river, wetland and lake edge. One farm has a set of old railway buildings they would like to repair and incorporate into the trail experience. Eoin explains the overall vision is to one day connect up to Otago Central Rail Trail and Taieri Gorge Railway in a 400km loop.

Eion described a dozen projects that have been prioritised to update and improve communal areas in Balclutha. These are some really exciting projects in our local area to look forward to in the next few years, many thanks to Eion for a well-informed update.
