Message from Barry Rassin
2018-19 President, Rotary International

Thank you for agreeing to participate in this important project to help Rotary International document the service that Rotary clubs do around the world. Your club is one of a small number in your region that we have selected for this survey.
This survey will collect information about the volunteer work activities that Rotary either sponsors or organizes. We are asking about the Rotary volunteer work activities of ALL of your club’s members during the past four weeks. It is important that all club members answer this survey as candidly and accurately as possible, even if they did not participate in Rotary events or volunteer work during the past four weeks.
No information about individual members or clubs will appear in the results.

Here is your club’s customized survey link:

Here’s what we’re asking you to do:
  • All of your club's members please complete by 20 November.
  • Members are encouraged to complete the survey electronically. A paper form will be available for members who don’t have access to a computer or mobile device.
  • Scan any paper forms and email them to Rotary International by 20 November.
You can request support and ask questions by writing to ri_research@rotary.org
Thank you. We appreciate your help!

Speaker of the Evening

The club was glad to meet John Cosgrove, photographer and reporter for our local Clutha Leader. John showed many of his photographs and told stories of his roles in the Navy and Army and pursuing photography from Oamaru to Singapore where he launched South East Asia's biggest photography magazine. Roles reporting hard news and doing sports photography have taken him to 33 countries, so of all his overseas trips, he has only had to fund himself for his very first trip and his most recent one! He has met the Queen, raced around the world photographing The Amazing Race and been in some tough environments including war zones.

John described the journey from being a news photographer to now being a multimedia journalist and the technology changes along the way! He was photographer for a newspaper while it became the world's first fully digital paper.

John's job is to capture the world as he sees it and he reminds the club that we are considered stakeholders in the local news process, he wants us to tell him what is happening and where. If a donation is being made, he is less interested in the cheque being handed over and far more interested in why it is being donated and seeing the organisation and project it is going towards.

Thanks to David for organising yet another fantastic speaker.
