Rotary Club of Balclutha

6 December 2018

Thursday 13th December no meeting at T&C - Christmas meal catered by Allan Roulston at Creative Arts Centre on Clyde Street 6pm $35. BYO & please bring donation for foodbank, voucher, toiletries or toys. Remember to dress up in red, green and white!

Don told of how delivering the phone books took longer this year with having to explain at businesses in town that it is just the yellow pages and repeatedly hearing their disappointment!
Tony thanks those who have delivered phone books. The spare books are now at ProSouth. If you need more or need to return leftovers, either drop them off if outside work hours or give Tony a call on 027 4152 452.
Don't dispose of your extra books as Barry must do a tally.
The holiday period over summer is when people visit the dell the most. Phil spent more time weed whacking a few weeks ago and is doing more work there on Saturday.
Tania is going to San Diego in June for more training.
Here at home she has done an interview with ODT to be published in the coming weeks.
Tania reminds us that she needs a committee for conference in 2020 and we need a club president for next year, the role provides a free trip to Auckland! More information from Tania below.
The club approved $500 to Josie Pirie going to Outward Bound in Australia to become a trainer.

A Plea for a President

The opportunity to lead our great club is still available for the 2019-20 Rotary year.

If you want the chance for some personal development, to put your own spin on meetings and service projects and the club direction for a year, then put your hand up – please!

Rotary offers ample training opportunities for the role, both hands on face-to-face stuff with your fellow Presidents from 30 other clubs in the district, to on-line resources in My Rotary.

The District budget is voted on every year by the incoming Presidents, and they all approved that every club would pay for the training sessions for their President-Elects. That means we are paying for the training regardless of an attendee being there or not, so lets not waste that money! Take advantage of the chance to lead, learn and upskill yourself all while being supported by a team of enthusiastic fellow Rotarians who want to see you succeed.

Registrations and flights must be finalised before Christmas, volunteer now for a year of growth and fun. Employers are looking for the skills associated with volunteering and leading in volunteer roles, get ahead of the pack and lead your club!

District Conference 2020

As we are the home club of the incoming District Governor, we have the opportunity to host the District 9980 conference in 2020 (it will most likely be April or May).

Current thoughts are that this will be like no other conference we have seen in recent years, with a more “hands on” approach, taking the opportunity to get dozens of Rotarians out into our community to really make a difference. Doing stuff is what Rotarians do best!

And yes, it will be hosted in our home town, Balclutha. And yes, accommodation may be challenging, but home hosting is a viable option that would help our town show just how friendly and helpful we are down here in the Clutha District.

If you would like to get on board and assist with finding suitable projects for us to undertake, organise a venue for the Saturday night get together, sort out possible catering options and other entertainment, then please see District Governor Elect Tania as soon as!

District conference is a great opportunity to meet other Rotarians in our District, create new connections and make new friends. If you haven’t been to one for a number of years (perhaps you have been in Rotary a while and feel that you have “been there done that”) then now is the time to get there again! Any experience outside of your club only enhances your Rotary experience and reminds you of the wide reaching arm that is Rotary International. Rotary is more than the four walls surrounding your weekly club meeting.

Jump online and register for the 2019 District conference to be held in Oamaru 26th-28th April 2019, and get an appreciation of what we can achieve by hosting in our home town.
