Rotary Club of Balclutha

21 March 2019

This week’s meeting began with a minutes silence as a mark of respect to those who have lost their lives during and as a result of the Christchurch Mosque tragedy on 15 March.
We think of those lives lost and the many other lives affected.

This weeks speaker was our fellow club member Tania, Rotary District 9980 Governor Elect for 2019/20.
Being an hounour for our club to have Tania in this position, it is proposed that this year’s Rotary Club President ‘Changeover’  will be a District one, the format currently under discussion – one thought is a Brunch event, Sunday 30 June.

Tania began her presentation by showing us the recent popular address she gave at the South Pacific President Elects recent Rotary Conference emphasising the 2019/20 Rotary year theme ‘Rotary connects the world’ - our ‘world’ being one of ‘doing’ and being  ‘people of action’ in our own communities.

To do this, it means we as Rotarians need to be working towards future options -  looking towards change and connection in our communities to attract like minded people so that the Rotary model fits today’s lifestyles in terms of flexibility, future options, being more visual in our communities and engaging others in to the Rotary ‘family’.

Tania then went on to explain the District 9980 Conference 2020 proposal that is to include the Milton Rotary Club being part of the wider Clutha district area and closely located to Balclutha) with the goals of making the conference more affordable and accessible to more Rotary members and their familes, including wider Rotary ‘family’ such as Rotoract and  increasing the visibility of Rotary in our communities

For more detail on this talk go to the member area of Clubrunner where the minutes have been uploaded. Thank you Christine for such detailed minutes.
