SPEAKER OF THE EVENING

Anne-Marie Davis, an artist in her own right, spoke on the Kaitangata Art Exhibition featuring over 60 artists that is open for public viewing for a week from Saturday 17 March at the Kaitangata Post Office.

Anne-Marie relocated to Kaitangata from Auckland 7 years ago, transferring from working in the Health sector at Starship Hospital to a position in the adult mental health area in Dunedin All whilst completing a horticulture course at Telford - a lifestyle she described as contrasting.

It is in relocating permanently to Kaitangata she has been able to develop her passion and appreciation of the arts and creative pastimes with a local historical flavour 'from the heart' and 'what is of them' which has led her to the facilitating of this exhibition celebrating community togetherness on our own doorstep to which her background in the running of an national art gallery has stood her in good stead.

Anne-Marie has been fortunate to source exhibitors and establish connections New Zealand wide who have ties to Kaitangata and will have works exhibited, including painter Dame Robin White who was a Kaitangata resident in the 1970s, Nevin Rowe who acted alongside Sam Neill in the 'Sleeping Dogs' New Zealand movie - 'you can never take the Kai out of someone' and photographer Laurence Aberhart.

The exhibition opening is on from 2-7pm, Saturday 17 March. Anne-Marie left flyers and posters for local distribution with Rotary members.

David thanked Anne-Marie for her very interesting and informative talk which has highlighted the remarkable ephemera displayed in a humble way that is a feature of our district.
