Andrew presented Donna with a cap for her presidency year ahead, which compliments her loud shirt perfectly!

Awarded for 100% attendance were Brian Archbold (30 years), Tania Lowery (6 years) and Kevin Henderson (29 years). Incredible diligence, well done Brian, Kevin and Tania!

DG Visit
District Governor Andrew Hamilton and wife Barbara joined our meeting with colourful shirts. Andrew is from Rotary Club of Dunedin Central and reminded us how Rotary has a large impact as we get things done without influence from religion or politics. Many organisations and foundations that have become national icons in NZ began as Rotary projects. Andrew showed photos of projects undertaken around Rotary District 9980 and explained how district funds are administered. Involvement with a Rotary club can provide fellowship and networking which creates the energy and ideas to assist communities. To share this fellowship, Andrew encourages us to consider a project for lonely and isolated people in the community as loneliness is becoming a major health issue and can be as detrimental as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.

Andrew gave a great update on the exciting things upcoming for District 9980.

In April 2019 will be a Rotary Professional Development Exchange with Tasmania for people in agricultural, engineering and tourism careers. Participants between the ages of 18 and 40 will spend three weeks in Tasmania, applications close 2nd November. More information at rotarydistrict9980.org or click the image on right.

Also in April will be the Rotary District 9980 Speech Competition 2019 which is offering prize money up to $1000 for the winning Year 12 & 13 students. More information at rotarydistrict9980.org.

Saturday 10th November is a district fun day with a fundraising car rally to Cromwell for a BBQ lunch and activities at Highland Park.

Rotary International Convention 2019 will be 1-5 June in Hamburg, Germany and Rotary District 9980 Conference 2019 is 26-28 April in Oamaru.

To keep updated, follow Rotary District 9980 Facebook and see the Rotary District 9980 website (the link is at the bottom of our club bulletins). Any photos of our club activities and projects can be sent to Andrew to be featured on the District 9980 pages. Also on the district page are directories and Rotary contact details when you login to the Member Area.

Community Notices

Diane Lowry has contacted the club to consider Constable Rochelle Gordon requesting Rotary assistance for the Police PCT Challenge which is going to be completed by primary school pupils.

Day: Friday 28 September 2018

Time: 9:30am-2pm (lunch break 12-12.30)

Venue: Cross Recreation Centre

We would like Rotary members to assist Police & Teachers will the supervision of children around the obstacles and with the set up/tidy up.

Even if members could do an hour or so each on a roster system, this would be appreciated.
